Imagine adopting a dog to find out that he doesn’t give smoochies, kisses, lickies-nothing. One family adopted a brother and sister pair of Dachshunds to find out just that; little Lucci (pronounced-Loochy) was a no smoochie poochie! The kids in your life will smile and giggle reading how this family, along with 2 other rather unique resident pups, tries everything to the point of exhaustion and still never gives up to get Lucci to give smoochies.

“Lucci – The No Smoochie Poochie” by Donna L. Sadd is a short rhyming story written specifically as a gift to her three nieces and one nephew. The story is a tale about one particular dog they adopted who did not give “kisses” like the other dogs did. There was Dillon the Bassett hound who would give “ear nibble smoochies” or “nippies” in exchange for an ear rub. Next came CoCo Bellini, a slightly overweight male dachshund, who loved giving smooches, and would do so all day long if he could. Then there was little Zoe, who would come running when anyone called out for a smooch. But poor little Lucci, the newest little poochie, simply would not give anyone a kiss. Instead, Lucci would walk away to avoid all the kissing going on. The family knew something had to be done, but what? How could they get Lucci the No Smoochie Poochie to become a Smoochie Poochie? They decided to overwhelm Lucci with kisses. Would that work? Or would Lucci just never become the affectionate pup they wanted him to be?

This is a very short, well-illustrated children’s book, with a simple rhyming convention throughout, which could easily become a child’s favorite bedtime story. Don’t buy this book unless you are fully prepared to read it night after night, because I can envision it now: “read me this one, Daddy” every night, until they finally outgrow it! But don’t hold your breath, because this is the kind of cute little tale preschoolers will want to enjoy for years. I really do recommend this to be added to your child’s or grand-child’s library; you will be richly rewarded with hugs and kisses every time you read it to them!

*Children’s*Lucci is a dog who enjoys all of the other things dogs do, belly rubs, scratching behind the ears, running, playing. He doesn’t enjoy one thing most dogs do though… smooches. The family tries everything but Lucci won’t give in.This is a delightful story and perfect for younger children. The rhyming of it will help the story stick once it’s finished. I’m positive this will become a favorite of your children too. We all loved it here! Our older dog, Buddy, was a lot like Lucci. Make this a gift of reading for your youngster whether they are reading yet or not!I found no issues here.I gave this one 5 out of 5 books because it’s a topic kids love… DOGS!
****Adorable!, April 16, 2012

I received a print copy of Lucci-The No Smoochie Poochie from the author for the purpose of review.

When I read this book to my 3 year old daughter, she loved it! The story is not too long as to keep a very young one’s attention. The illustrations are very simple; they look like a child’s drawing further engaging young ones to the book. At one point, the author mentions her nieces and nephews in the book and even has their pictures incorporated into the illustrations. My daughter loved this. She thought one of the author’s nieces looked like her. She said, “Mommy, that’s me. I’m playing with Lucci”. My daughter put herself right into the story which to me is a very good sign that she liked and was enjoying the book.

There was only one editing error that I found. On page 22 of the book: “the wondrous event just past (should be “passed”) us all by!”

Thank you Donna for sending me the book to review! You can learn more about Ms Sadd by visiting her website at […]and her blog at donnalsadd.wordpress.com. I look forward to more from this children’s author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucci-The No Smoochie Poochie, March 9, 2012
This review is from: Lucci-The No Smoochie Poochie (Kindle Edition)

LUCCI-The No Smoochie Poochie is an adorable little childrens book which sends out the message of patience and love. Lucci is a dog who is not very friendly towards his owners. The owners try to show Lucci love through hugs and kisses and Lucci rejects the affections each time. Eventually Lucci comes around and returns the affection of the patient owners. LUCCI-The No Smoochie Poochie is just right for your young children who are learning the values of patience and understanding the concept of love. Love is lived out in patience and LUCCI does a wonderful job of displaying and explaining this concept in a fun manner.

The images in LUCCI-The No Smoochie Poochie are very simple yet springs to life through the colors. I believe that the simple drawing style used here will encourage your children in creating like characters of thier own.

*****Cute and funny for everyone to enjoy!, February 2, 2012

****Sweet lil Lucci., January 14, 2012
My son enjoyed the drawings and pointed out the dogs on each page as I read to him. The rhymes flowed well and it was just the right length for a bedtime story.

Trying to purchase your book, but having trouble with PayPal tonight. We have 2 Dachshunds, Java Bean and Nikki Nichole. Nikki had a litter of 4 pups and we gave my grandson one for his birthday, which he named Black Bear. Dachshunds are the most loving dogs I have ever had. I am excited to purchase the book for my grandsons. If I continue to have problems with Paypal is there another way to purchase the book?

I hope to see more book about Dachshunds 🙂

I found Lucci The No Smoochie Poochie to be a delightful rhyming book. Lucci gives no smoochies to her family. With lots of love and understanding Lucci soon gives smoochies. Just goes to show what love and understanding can do. I would read this to my baby and toddler anyday… Great job Donna.

Hey Donna, finally downloaded Lucci. What a sweet, lovely little book. And delightful illustrations too.

Please don’t think I’m being too forward, but I feel the need to write a little book for children on the loss of a pet and wondered if I could ask you a few questions?

    Thanks and BW,
    Lesley x.

    • Donna L. Sadd September 18, 2012 at 11:33 am #

      Hi Lesley,
I’m happy that you enjoyed LUCCI. My email is dlsadd at gmail dot com. Feel free to ask away. :0)

  12. KidLitReviews October 5, 2012 at 7:24 pm #

Nice reviews. The book seems cute and likeable. So does Lucci ever give smoochies? Do they ever find out why he didn’t give smoochies? A shelter fog maybe that needs to work out some issues?

I think I wil check out Lucci, The No Smoochie Poochie.

    • Donna L. Sadd October 5, 2012 at 8:19 pm #

Thanks for popping in Ms. Morris; you will just have to read LUCCI to learn the answers to those probing questions. :0) I’m having books printed now and would be happy to forward a copy for donation to your library. In the meantime, would you consider reading a Kindle or PDF version for your kind review? If that will work, please pop me an email at dlsadd at gmail dot com.

Thanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway.

LUCCI THE NO SMOOCHIE POOCHIE looks like an adorable little book. We have a little dog, half miniature wire-haired daschund who gives the occasional kisses when allowed.

    • Lynn A. Davidson November 9, 2012 at 8:51 am #

oops! it would be nice if I always could remember how to spell: dachshund 😉

    • Donna L. Sadd November 9, 2012 at 9:37 am #

I’d give an eyetooth to get my hands on Christine Nolfi’s book. Though I have yet to read her, the reviews are terrific and so is she.

Thanks for popping Lynn. You know, I’ve got the same problem with ‘dachshund’, so usually I just keep it simple and go with doxi. :0)

WOW, sounds fantastical! I am going to buy it later this week. (Right now I’m on the way with my son to see a special doctor about his teeny airway.) Very scared. But we will all love this book. Especially our farm dog Jack and our shih tzu (inside dog) Frodo. Ha. The horses might find it neigh worthy too. 🙂

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appearance.
I must say you have done a excellent job with this. Also, the blog loads super
quick for me on Internet explorer. Excellent Blog!
