This prompt, FIRST, was received from Shannon Abercrombie’s Start the Year Off Write Challenge’s guest author, David Harrison. An award-winning author, Mr. Harrison has written 77 children’s books and offers a monthly writing prompt on his blog called Word of the Month Poetry Challenge.

Written off the top of my head:

First, he yelled and cried.

Tears ran down his face.

Then he ran inside,

He had lost the race.

Who knew Mom was right?

Spinach made me strong!

Felt like I could run all day.

Eat greens, you can’t go wrong!

#AprilPrompts – Day 19 – Guilt – #NaPoWriMo Children’s Poem

25 Apr
Don't know why it's me you asked.
I did not do it, I said.
Why do you just pick on me?
Ask someone else instead.

There's four kids in this big old house,
But you don't suspect those guys.
How is it you think that I'm,
The only kid who lies?

You try the old black tongue test,
To see if I'm a liar.
Stare, to try to make me break.
Nope, I'm not a crier.

You make me go to my room,
And clean up all my messes.
You have wasted half the day,
Hoping 'he' confesses.

I gotta get out of here,
To play with all my friends.
How long will it take until,
This inquisition ends?

I can't take this guilt no more.
Alright, okay, I did it!
Took the skateboard from out front
And went ahead and hid it!

[Don't know how they always know,
That I'm the guilty one.
Can't keep myself from trouble.
To me, it's worth the fun!]

#AprilPrompts – Day 17 – Searching – #NaPoWriMo #Children’s #Poem

23 Apr

Every time I'm on the mound
My heart does a flutter.
Tuning out the crowd's loud sound.
My stomach's churning butter.

Focusing, I look around,
The players are all set.
Catcher's flashing signals out,
Don't like his choices yet.

One finger stands for fast balls.
Two fingers stand for curves.
Batter sneers, to fake me out.
I've got to steel my nerves.

Each ball hurled becomes a strike.
Their dugout starts to hiss.
Scoreboard charts each perfect pitch.
I sure do live for this!

Last batter's set and ready.
It's a swing and a miss.
Got that player out of there.
Pitchers dream of doing this!

I owned it, I pulled it off.
It was a perfect day.
I will always hit the mound,
In search of Special 'K'!

Promise we'll always be buddies
Promise we'll always be friends
Promise no girl will come between
Other bonds come to these ends

Pledge to pick me first on your team
Study together for Math
Say you'll protect me from bullies
While walking home down Teaser's Path

Assure me that we'll be tight pals
Through college and then to work
Say I'll stay your bestest bud
And won't be replaced by a jerk

I don't mean to sound sappy, but
Your friendship matters to me
Let's make an oath, a vow of sorts
That friends we will always be

I promise we'll grow together
I promise I'll always be there
And with this mush all said and done
Let's seal it, pinky swear

17 Apr

Dahlia's dad would spend his days
Ruling upon his throne
Surrounded by his subjects
Was rarely found alone

The princess merely wanted
To spend time with her dad
When she tried to talk to him
His staff would get quite mad

They wouldn't let King know when
She walked into the hall
They all tried to block his view
All Dahlia did was bawl

Nurse saw Dahlia heartbroken
And asked for the king's ear
King would grant Nurse anything
For King she did so rear

Princess Dahlia loves you Sire
Spend time with her each day
Keep your daughter by your side
She'll be content that way

King took Nurse's words to heart
Dahlia will one day rule
I'll have her sit here with me
To learn, just like in school

Her chair was set next to King's
Two thrones placed in a row
In between royal decrees
They played fun tic-tac-toe
